10 Security Dealer & Integrator / www.SecurityInfoWatch.com April 2017 Disruption Coming for Smart Home Market: Research firm IHS is predicting increased competition in the years to come for smart home service providers. It forecasts that profession- ally monitored smart home accounts will surpass traditionally monitored accounts in 2022, when about nine percent of all homes will have a pro- fessionally monitored smart home, up from one percent in 2011. Considering that professionally monitored alarm systems comprise only 23 percent of all residential households, IHS says the industry remains well positioned to take advantage of existing connected home conversions as well as the market that is untapped. Connected alarm systems for residential applications are forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18 percent, reach- ing $7.2 billion in 2020. Cybersecurity Likely to Take a Back Seat under New FCC Leader: The newly Republican-led Federal Communications Commission is unlikely to make cyberse- curity regulation the pri- ority it was under the last administration, accord- ing to past comments by the agency's new chairman, Ajit Pai , who was tapped by President Donald Trump to succeed Tom Wheeler in March. Pai has been quoted as saying the FCC's role in cyberse- curity was "relatively circumscribed" and "consultative" as opposed to establishing "uniform rules that would apply to an entire industry." This flies in the face of Wheeler, who gave his last word on the subject in a whitepaper calling for more cybersecu- rity regulation of internet service pro- viders (ISPs).   Channel M&A; Roundup: Paladin Security is expanding into the United States with the acquisition of Criterion Security , with the result- ing merged company to be renamed PalAmerican Security .
