You do not include testing of the sprinkler water flow alarm switch(es) in a Testing & Inspection quote. Right in NFPA 72, on the T&I form, it clearly states that testing this switch falls within the domain of the licensed/qualified fire alarm system installer. It is easy, and it is your job – so do it. 2. You accept work that your employees are not suited to perform. It is not worth the loss of confidence by your customer if they see you struggling to figure out what to do while on the job site. Lack of Education 1. No one takes code update classes so that you can keep up on new requirements that affect your alarm company. Without knowledge of new codes, your company might be still using two telephone lines and installing digital communicators, for example. 2. You do not offer a mobile app that enables the customer to have more control and responsibility for their own system. You are a fire alarm technician, so keep up with current technology and charge your customers accordingly for these conveniences. 3. Failure to provide regular safety meetings for all employees. Without regular safety meetings, you may someday find yourself at a worker's compensation hearing; or worse, as an OSHA violation. 4. Failure to Document.
