14 Security Business / / May 2019 SECURITY WATCH COMPILED BY PAUL ROTHMAN, EDITOR–IN–CHIEF Fresh Off the Wire / News from around the industry ACRE's Expansion Continues with RS2 ACRE has agreed to acquire RS2 Technologies to further strengthen its access control business and product portfolio after its December 2018 acquisition of Open Options. ACRE’s full portfolio now consists of Vanderbilt, Open Options, RS2 and ComNet, “providing a robust offering to meet the needs of many verticals,” according to a statement. “This acquisition provides us another strong brand and provides us a larger position as a partner with our good friends at Allegion and ASSA ABLOY and their subsidiaries,” ACRE CEO Joseph Grillo explained in an exclusive interview with SecurityInfoWatch Editorial Director Steve Lasky. “It also makes us a larger player in the Mercury ecosystem of open architecture access control systems that may very well be growing at a faster pace than some of the proprietary brands. It also gives us more local geographic diversity.” RS2, founded in 1998, has long prided itself on the use of an open architecture platform approach in order to provide a broad product offering working with a multitude of technology partners. RS2 has a reputation for good customer service and has stayed in tune with the demands of the industry, listening to suggestions from both end-users and installers. The RS2 platform was designed to easily integrate with other security system components. “This is a great opportunity to expand our customer base and leverage the benefits of being a part of a broader ACRE portfolio,” said David W. Barnard, RS2 Director of Dealer Development. “This will help push RS2 to the next level.” ■ Read the full report at Distributor Cook & Boardman Acquires Fast50 Integrator A3 Communications The Cook & Boardman Group (C&B), a specialty distributor of commercial door entry solutions, has acquired A3 Communications Inc., a Columbia, S.C.-based systems integrator focused on electronic security, enterprise networking, audio/visual and managed services.
