8 Security Business / www.SecurityInfoWatch.com / May 2019 Editor's Note BY PAUL ROTHMAN Project of the Year 2019 is Open If you teamed with a consulting or engineering firm on a challenging project in the past year, this award is for you For the past two years, Security Business has featured the Elliot A. Boxerbaum Security Design Project of the Year award winner on the cover of the December issue. If you are looking for a way to publicize the innovative and often difficult projects you have recently completed with the help of a consultant, perhaps your integration firm will find itself on the cover of the December 2019 Security Business. The Elliot A. Boxerbaum Memorial Award was designed by Ray Coulombe of SecuritySpecifiers to honor a consulting or engineering company that designed and specified a completed security design project with the help of a security integration firm. The award specifically recognizes the collaboration, design excellence, uniqueness, creativity and administration factors that contribute to a successful security project. While the award is open only to security-specific design companies, low-voltage system design companies, Architectural and Engineering, and MEP firms, the security integrator on the project will be featured on the cover of Security Business. So, if you worked with one of these consulting or engineering firms on a challenging or difficult project, I would encourage you to collaborate on an award entry – as the good publicity will only serve to earn both firms more business in the future. To be eligible, the security project must have been accepted and become operational in 2018 or Q1 2019. The award will be given to the honored consultants/engineers and integrators at CONSULT 2019 – an event sponsored by SecuritySpecifiers that brings together consultants, integrators and manufacturers to address key security topics – on Oct. 19-22 at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa in Bernalillo, N.M. The presentation itself will be held on Oct. 20. “The Elliot A. Boxerbaum Award is named for a man who was regarded by his peers as a model for professionalism and design competence,” Coulombe says. “The award reflects project innovation, collaboration, and good design practices. Our committee will consider all valid projects, without regard to the ‘glamour’ factor.” To enter, collaborate with the consulting or engineering firm you worked with on the project and visit www.attendconsult.com/home/Award to access the entry form. Act fast, as the submission period for the award closes on July 1. Projects are judged in six different areas, including scope, challenges, collaboration, innovation, results and benefits. Check out last year’s winnning project to get an idea at www.securityinfowatch.com/12437827. All submitters of valid award applications will receive a 50% discount on their net registration fees for CONSULT 2019 (the consulting firm must attend to be recognized). The award winner will have all symposium fees reimbursed, and a representative of the award winner’s client may attend at no charge. Boxerbaum, who passed away in 2014 from ALS, was the founder of Security Risk Management Consultants. In addition, he was past president of the International Association of Professional Security Consultants (IAPSC) and an original Advisory Board member for SecuritySpecifiers.
