Now that sophisticated IT/networking and other technologies are in place, Moore's Law — which states that technology doubles every 18 months — is really no longer valid. That's because once entrenched, technological changes are set to occur even faster than the 18-month timeframe, and that's really not a surprise. Look at how we run our personal lives — we are tied to smartphones, mobile apps, cloud storage and many other features or functions that we wonder how we managed without just a decade ago. Paying bills online and doing all your banking in the clouds has become an everyday occurrence. Need information on anything? 'Google It.' The worlds of systems contracting and service providers has been turned upside down as well. They can no longer just install a hardware device or product and go, and expect to make a profit to sustain their business. They have learned to embrace new technologies and services that ultimately will make their customers — the end-user — more endeared to their companies and thus provide them with new streams of monthly recurring revenue to keep their profitability high. Along with this comes the fact that systems integrators have to be more service-oriented, because that's what it is all about today and that's what the end-user needs — a company they can call on to help them with their security challenges and assist their firms in becoming safer, more viable and even increasingly sustainable. THE EXECUTIVE'S GUIDE TO SYSTEMS INTEGRATORS • September 2013 Changes in Contractor Services For the end-user, the changes in security systems contracting are a definite plus, because they too can benefit from forward-thinking security solutions companies who offer new and emerging technologies — including interactive services, hosted video/access control and video alarm verification. In fact, these are the companies end-users should want to align with, because they know this technology equals future profitability. They will do everything in their power to ensure you have what you want and need to be successful in business and provide a safer environment overall to your personnel and customers. Times have definitely changed. The following articles will outline how security companies are not the burglar and fire alarm firms of the past, thanks to interactive services, video alarm verification, cloudbased storage and more. This is your personal guide to working with integrators. Included in our guide to new technology choices is a state-by-state listing of integrators — a Partner Finder —where you can find local help to take full advantage of the technolgical options available. Make sure you select the progressive companies who embrace new technologies and who can be sure you are poised for growth and secure your companies from top to bottom.
