SECURITYWATCH HAPPENINGS Nominations Open for Women of the Year WSC awards to be presented at ISC West event and reception The Women's Security Council (WSC) has opened nominations for its annual Women of the Year awards. Nominations are reviewed by an independent panel of judges and the awards will be presented in a variety of categories at a special reception at ISC West in Las Vegas. "We present awards for end-users, integrators, manufacturers and in the trenches, such as central station operators or installers," explains WSC founding committee member Deborah O'Mara. "The awards will be given to those who have not only helped their company grow but also helped the community; or helped others in their company rise to new positions; or provided educational mentoring or other services above and beyond their immediate duties in the security industry." All members of the security industry are encouraged to nominate their peers by visiting the WSC website at www. wscouncil.com. For further information, be sure to visit the WSC at ISC East, booth 589. The WSC, which was launched in 2011, continues its mission to empower women in the security industry to realize and attain their full potential as industry leaders. The organization is actively looking for industry members to help with shows and provide assistance in different roles. "When you make it a priority to assist, the sky's the limit and WSC can in turn become more visible and prominent in the security industry," O'Mara says. Additionally, the not-for-profit organization has various tiered levels of sponsorship available. Visit the website for more info, and follow the WSC on Twitter: @WS_Council. ❚ Upcoming NOV. 18-23 - SANS San Diego San Diego; www.sans.org/event/san-diego-2013 NOV. 20-21 - ISC East New York; www.isceast.com DEC. 4-5 - Cloud Security Alliance Congress 2013 Orlando; www.cloudsecuritycongress.com/us/index DEC. 4-7 - Calif.Alarm Association (CAA) Winter Convention San Francisco; www.caaonline.org/caa-convention DEC. 5 - Affiliated Central Video Summit Union, N.J.; www.affiliated.com 14 Mike Painter, Skip Sampson, Jim Coleman and Steve Morefield of Security-Net.
