16 Security Dealer & Integrator / www.SecurityInfoWatch.com January 2018 ASIS Show Rebrands as Global Security Exchange New name reflects enhanced focus on modernized and diversified education and reimagined exhibit floor Event Report / News from industry gatherings SECURITY WATCH For Ron Rosenbaum, ASIS International's chief global mar- keting and business development officer, the decision to change the name of its annual security conference to the Global Security Exchange (GSX) was a natural pro- gression that reflects the direction the association is moving. The event – newly branded GSX – will unveil a revamped format in Las Vegas in September. "The Global Security Exchange reflects the changes we are making, both across the society and at our flagship event," Rosenbaum says. "In 2017, we saw the beginning of this transformation. We expanded our organizational partners program, we revamped our education lineup and delivered a more immersive, con- temporary learning experience for attendees at all career levels. We also significantly enhanced our invest- ment in keynote speakers, as well as the networking events that book- ended the program." Adds ASIS CEO Peter J. O'Neil, CAE: "This name reflects the Society's commitment to uniting the full spectrum of security – cyber and operational security professionals from all verticals across the private and public sec- tor, allied organiza- tions and partners, and the industry's leading service and solution providers." The education pro- gram at GSX – led by ASIS, InfraGard, and ISSA subject matter experts – will deliver an immersive and interactive learning environment for security professionals. ASIS says it intends for the exhibit hall to be transformed into a "learn- ing lab environment" – showcas- ing new and emerging products and technologies such as machine learning, robotics, forensic analysis and artificial intelligence. In addition, the revitalized networking events will facilitate relationship building and the sharing of best practices with peers. "GSX fills the industry's need for a global event that brings together the entire security industry, to exchange ideas and lessons learned, keep informed of current and emerg- ing risks, and gain exposure to the emerging technologies shaping soci- ety and our workplaces," says current ASIS president Thomas Langer, CPP. Rosenbaum is most excited about the revamped educational concept and show experience that is reflected in the "learning lab" approach. "We believe learning shouldn't be reserved for the classroom," he says. "It is important for security profes- sionals to get hands-on access to new and emerging technologies, as well as ideas and insights that offer new takes on current challenges. At GSX, we will upend the traditional exhibit hall format." ASIS is also hoping to transform the way its vendor partners engage with attendees. "We are elevating the conversation from a traditional buyer and supplier model to one of true partnership and information exchange," Rosenbaum explains. While the annual event's new name has already been released, the full rebranding and logo will be unveiled at the 2018 ASIS International Leadership Conference, (Jan. 16-19) in Arlington, Va. ■ BY STEVE LASKY, EDITORIAL DIRECTOR ■ The next ASIS show – set for September 2018 at the Las Vegas Convention Center – will be called the Global Security Exchange (GSX).
